The Velvet Curtain downtown Dallas — honest review?
Thinking about trying The Velvet Curtain since it's close to where we live in Deep Ellum. We've only been to Colette so far. How does it compare? What should we expect?

The Velvet Curtain is a solid club with a different vibe than Colette. It's more raw and less polished — think converted warehouse space with a downtown edge. The play areas have both private rooms and open spaces. The crowd tends to be a bit younger and more diverse than Colette. Dress code exists but isn't as strict. The location in the Good Latimer area is convenient if you're in Deep Ellum or downtown. Honestly, we alternate between VC and Colette depending on our mood — Colette when we want upscale and polished, Velvet Curtain when we want a more relaxed and edgier night out.

We're regulars at VC. The Saturday night crowd is consistently good — usually 40-60 people. They do themed events that can be really fun. The staff is laid-back and friendly. Only downside is parking can be tricky on weekends since you're near Deep Ellum, but there are surface lots within walking distance. Pro tip: the upstairs lounge is the best spot to socialize early in the night.
I'd say Velvet Curtain is more beginner-friendly than Colette in some ways. Less intimidating entrance process, slightly lower price point, and the crowd is less cliquey. We started there and it gave us the confidence to try other DFW clubs.
